Pokemon are wild animals. They will attack, they will run, and on very rare occasions they will befriend. Most people don't have a pokemon companion, unless they live outside of the cities, such as farmers. Pokemon do not speak human and humans do not speak pokemon. There are no pokemorphs-they died out when the legendaries woke.
Psychic pokemon may communicate, but it is not easily understood-because of the radical differences between the minds of pokemon and human, they can only convey emotions and pictures.
Besides farmers, there are a few people who start partnerships with pokemon. These are, as follows.
- Traders/Travelers. They will often purchase newborn growlithe/houndour pups that will then be trained to act as guards and companions. They are trained to treat all humans with care and it is rare that a domesticated canine will attack a human unless ordered to do so.
- Rangers. Rangers patrol the roadways in an attempt to keep travelers safe from brigands, bandits, thieves and pokemon. They will often domesticate one or two pokemon they obtain at birth, although occasionally they will subdue a wild pokemon with an even temperament. They tend to stick to canine and felines. Occasionally an equine will be domesticated to serve as a faster mode of transportation. The pokemon domesticated and trained by Rangers are amongst the best trained and there have been only a very few instances of the pokemon acting violently without instruction. The largest number of pokemon domesticated by a Ranger is recorded as four.
- Messengers. Messengers, the mailmen and women, often domesticate either equines or avians. They rarely train more than one, and the training of their pokemon is questionable. Messengers tend to avoid people for the most part, save for the delivering and acquiring of messages, and so the training of their pokemon is not normally a problem. No Messenger has more than two pokemon, although they are renown for their ability to tame wild equines.
- Mercenaries Mercenaries, hired to clear out brigands/bandits/thieves or to attack rival cities will domesticate nearly anything they can get their hands on. Though they take great care to make sure their companion is trained to not attack or harm their handler, they are not known for training them to behave around other humans. Mercenary camps are often kept far away from, as their domesticated pokemon have no qualms about hurting people. They will tame as many as they can, although the more they have the less training each of the pokemon have.
- Brigands/Bandits/Thieves/Assassins 'Domesticating' is perhaps too strong a word for what these darker people tend to do with pokemon. They will often use any type of pokemon, although rodents and poisonous ones tend to be favored. The pokemon are as likely to turn on their handler as to carry out the required job.
I'm open to ideas, so if you think there is another group who should have domesticated pokemon, do let me know. [/size]
